Putao – Situate 1499 ft, 457 meters above sea located far north of Myanmar in Kachin State, descendent from eastern Himalayan region. Lies in a flat valley, famous as a jumping-off point for trekkers who want to explore the region’s deep forests, wildlife sanctuaries and snow-capped mountains. Local tribal communities in Putao region are of Hkamti Shan, Doolin Jimphaw (Kachin), and White color Rawan, Myanmar’s gypsy Lisu, Pigmy Tarong, hunting community of Htalu and Tibetan who lives in the far north in the Himalayas. Trekking house biking activities offers a thrilling bicycle journey that will take you through the local settlement which most of its people has never seen a foreigner before. You’ll get a glimpse at the real face of tribal community as you cycle through.

Namkham – Located on the bank of Malikha River at the bottom of Namhti mountain range. Originally by Hkamti Shan name meaning “Golden River”, has become the center of cultivation place for the fruits that first missionary team have introduced thus to day famous for its sweet fruits production.

Machanbaw – Located across Malikha River, connected by beautiful Malikha suspension bridge.

Mulashidi – Meaning in Lisu “the village stands in the thatch field along Mula River”. Beautifully set up Lisu village lies 14 km south of Putao connected by 159 meter long suspension bridge and provides a fascinating view to the mountains as a backdrop.


Day 1

Yangon – Putao

Pickup from your hotel and transfer to Yangon Airport for your domestic flight from Yangon to Putao. Upon arrival at Putao airport you will be met by Putao trekking house’s representative and transferred to your guest house. Putao lies in a flat valley, jumping-off point for trekkers who want to explore the region’s deep forests, wildlife sanctuaries and snow-capped mountains etc. After a brief fresh up take a walk around Putao for the orientation. Dinner and overnight at Putao Trekking House.


Day 2

Putao – Htawadum – Namkham (jeep/trek)

Early in the morning walk to Putao market (approx 10 minute), visit attractive market often busy with local ethnic tribes. Return to hotel, breakfast and depart by jeep/truck through the vast Putao plain on pebbled road to Htawadum (14 km, approx one hour). Cross Malikha River by long-tailed boat to visit famous Kanugmulon Pagoda, said to be one of the 84000 pagodas built by Thiri Dhamma Thawka, the great king. Proceed walking toward Salundum but turn to Nampandum from Lona suspension bridge. Lunch stop and continue walk to Namkham (5 km, approx 3 hours) along smaller villages such as Salundum and Htrandum etc. Namkham, a large Rawan village, situates at the bottom of Namhti mountain range which in rich with biodiversity of flora and fauna. Name after Hkamti Shan name meaning “Golden River” has became the centre of cultivation place for the fruits that Father Robert Moss has introduced thus today famous for its sweet fruits production. Settle in at your guesthouse and walk around the village. Dinner and overnight at local guest house.


Day 3

Namkham – Machanbaw – Mulashidi – Putao (trek/jeep)

Breakfast and start walk to Machanbaw (15 km, approx 6 hours) through relatively low land terrain with occasionally ups and downs passing through some smaller villages such as Inwaingbaw and Inbubaw. Machanbaw is a small administrative town ex-Putao with beautifully set up colonial style town. Lunch stop here and visit so-called “stone dragon” park which should take about 20 minute walk and cross a suspension bridge spans across Malikha River to Naungkhine where your jeep awaits you and take you to Mulashidi Lisu village (35 km, approx one hour). Visit the attractive Lisu settlement and suspension bridge across Mula River. Enjoy beautiful surrounding often back drop with snow-capped mountains in distance. Return back to Putao and check in at your hotel. Dinner and overnight at Putao Trekking House.


Day 4 - Choice of tour (A) or (B)

(A) Walking / biking tour to Mudon area (easy) (approximately 3-5 hours)

Breakfast and visit attractive Putao market and rest of the morning at leisure. Perhaps visit one of the local orphanage schools and afternoon take an easy walk to Paneling Hkamti Shan village and visit unique Mahamuni Image and other attractions. Continue walk to Putaung Shan village through paddy field and gardens having small Buddhist Shrine with a back drop of Blue Mountains and snow-capped Mountains far in the horizon. Continue walk to Gyinyankan Lisu village and finally walk to Malawagy village, located on a small plateau which gives you a panoramic view of Putao valley. Return walk will be though Lonsut village back to Putao and check in at hotel. Dinner and overnight at Putao Trekking House.


(B) Walking / biking tour to Hopaing area (easy)

Breakfast and visit small but attractive Putao market and extended walk extended to Lonsut village, through vast paddy fields, cross over Namhtun creek and walk up to small plateau for a nice over view of Putao valley. Continue walk through beautiful bamboo grove to Hopaing Shan village, beautifully located on the valley of Lonsut. Visit beautiful Buddhist Monastery and village, social and culture exchange with friendly Shan people. Return walk would be along Namhtun creek with optional visit to some of the Lisu villages on the way. Check in at hotel. Dinner and overnight at Putao Trekking House. (B,L,D) – (total walking hour – approx 3 – 5)


Day 5

Malikha river boat excursion (easy)

Breakfast and depart by jeep to Naungkhine (20 km, approx one hour). Board on local fishermen boat and leisurely cruise down in the Malikha River enjoying the sites and sounds of the natural environment. This part of the river journey is one of the most beautiful spots in the wilderness world having high reef with lush tropical evergreen forests. Pack lunch at the sand bank and relax through the afternoon. Late afternoon return up stream by boat to Naungkhine jetty and jeep transfer back to hotel. Dinner and overnight at Putao Trekking House.


Day 6

Putao – Yangon

Breakfast and perhaps a last minute shopping at Putao market and further visit in and around Putao with suggestion by your guide. Lunch and afternoon transfer to airport for your onward departure flight to conclude this unique experience. Domestic flight from Putao to Yangon, arrive at Yangon Airport and transfer to you hotel.

Remarks :
• This tour is cannot operate during summer period from May to September due to raining and trekking ways are muddy.
